What to Do After You’re in an Accident
Did you meet with an accident? If so, please follow these easy guidelines:
- Stay as calm as possible
- Check for injuries. Your well-being is more important than damage to your vehicle. If you’re not sure if you, another driver, or a passenger is injured, call 911
- If the accident is minor and there are no serious injuries, move your vehicle out of traffic to a safe place on the side of the road
- Turn on your hazard lights. If necessary, use cones, warning triangles, or flares
- Call the police, even for minor accidents
- Don’t sign any documents unless it’s for the police
- Don’t say that the accident was your fault to the other driver or the police officer, even if you think it was. Do not accuse the other driver for being at fault. Only state the facts
- Use a camera to photograph the accident scene or any damage
